How Ansu Fati Got Iconic Messi’s No. 10 Jersey

A product of La Masia Ansu Fati has been awarded Barcelona’s number ten jersey for the 2021/22 campaign. It was unclear as there were many contenders to this iconic number worn by legends like Diego Maradona, Ronaldinho, Rivaldo, and recently by Lionel Messi.

After Messi was forced to walk away from the club, there were speculations that La Liga will retire this number completely. Whether Philippe Coutinho will wear it as he wore number 10 in his Liverpool days, but his best days are long gone if we look at the facts. He barely plays in Barca’s squad. Another option was to give this shirt to Antoine Griezmann, but he left on loan to his previous club Atletico de Madrid. Pedro González López was a strong contender as he was a crucial player in Barca’s squad. Also the best player in Spain’s squad for Euro and Olympics 2020. The only Spanish player selected in Team of The Tournament and voted  Best Young Player for Euro 2020.

Ansu Fati is a La Masia product and a winger like Club Legend Lionel Messi. In the 2020/2021 campaign, he performed well in the opening games of Barcelona before his injury. He was out of the squad for 47 games. All the Barcelona fans loved him and are looking forward to his return to Barca’s team as there is no Lionel Messi, so Fati has a chance to step up and fit right into Messi’s place. Fati has got a brilliant opportunity to stand out and be the next Club legend.
